Fort Erie drag racer Keith McKellar was one of the winningest drivers at the 14th Annual Mopar World Finals in Norwalk, Ohio.
Driving his TT Fabricating built 69 green Dodge Dart, McKellar’s first win came early with the Gambler’s Race, the first race of the event. He made six successful rounds to beat out seventy two cars. He doubled up his win with a second win in the Super Pro class. This time he went seven rounds to beat out 98 cars.
“The car performed well each time I climbed in,” said McKellar, “I did not have to adjust or fix a thing all weekend. I just gave it fuel and a little TLC and it did the rest. The only down thing was our daughter Alex, who has been with me as my crew chief at this event for the past nine years was not there this year to share the win because she is studying in England through Queen’s University.”
Ohio native and owner/race car driver, Scott Foster stepped in as McKellar’s crew chief and gave him some critical and beneficial advice to help with the wins.
When asked when he began this years’ race season he replied, “I started off the season with the Bridgeburg Car Show in downtown Fort Erie in late May and from there I just seemed to be on a roll.”
The Mopar World Finals, previously known as the Chrysler Classic, draws only and all Chrysler cars to the event. Approximately 600 cars attend each year. All show cars and racing vehicles must be Mopar powered and bodied. The Mopar family includes Dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler, AMC and Jeep products. Some of the race categories include the Quick 16, Hemi, Max Wedge, Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman, Gamblers Race and the CRT 10 O Shootout.
His successful race season saw him with a win at both Lancaster, New York and Toronto Motorsports Park (Dragway Park Cayuga) and the recent two wins at Norwalk, Ohio. He was runner-up and in two semifinals at Lancaster as well as a couple of number one qualifiers. His year ending was nine races; five finals, two semifinals and 38 and four rounds.
