Dragons’ Den auditions in St. Catharines Feb. 21

Local entrepreneurs can take their first step towards the Dragons’ Den, during an audition stop in St. Catharines.

Producers of the hit TV show are currently hitting the road, with stops in 40 cities across the country, in search of a new crop of aspiring entrepreneurs for the show. Auditions will come to Niagara on Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a stop at the St. Catharines-Thorold Chamber of Commerce, 1 St. Paul St., Unit 14 (Chamber Education Centre).

Dragons’ Den, which airs on CBC, features entrepreneurs from across the country pitching their business venture to the Dragons in hope of scoring some financial backing for their business interest. No experience is necessary for auditions, and participants of all ages are encouraged to audition.

During the auditions, business pitches should be made in under five minutes. If the entrepreneurs can convince the show’s producers that they are ready to enter the Dragons’ Den, they will be invited to face the Dragons — Robert Herjavec, Bruce Croxon, Kevin O’Leary, Jim Treliving and Arlene Dickinson — when the upcoming season is filmed in Toronto. Successful pitchers on the show have the chance to earn real investment straight from the Dragons’ pockets.

Candidates are asked to apply online and bring a completed application form to the audition. For more details, including a full list of audition tour cities and dates, visit cbc.ca/dragonsden.
Producers note the stakes are even higher this year, as Dragons’ Den and Shell Canada have partnered for a special “Future Now” energy innovation episode airing June 3, 2012. Three finalists will pitch their energy innovations to the Dragons, and the winning pitch will receive $100,000 from Shell Canada to help make their idea a reality. More information on this special competition can be found online at the Dragons’ Den website.
