NIAGARA FALLS – Robert Picardo who spent seven years as the holographic Doctor on Star Trek Voyager, will be landing to make an earth appearance at Niagara Falls Comic Con this June.
Known best for his cleaver lines, the ship’s Doctor is a holographic figure — an emergency medical program devised by Starfleet programmers. When the ship’s doctor and entire medical staff were killed in the “Caretakers” displacement wave, the Doctor by necessity became the resident physician aboard the USS Voyager.
Picardo’s role as “The Doctor” is just one of many memorable roles for the veteran actor who was also seen as a regular on Stargate Atlantis. Graduating from Yale with a B.A. in Drama, Picardo appeared in several broadway performances, as well as several TV hit series where he was nominated for an Emmy award for his role as “Mr. Cutlip” on the series “The Wonder Years” (1988).
It was his break out roll in Start Trek: Voyager (1995) when his career as an actor began to lift-off. Picardo later went on to direct the 14th episode in the 3rd season of Voyager, The “Alter Ego”, and also wrote the season Six episode “Life Line”.
