ST. CATHARINES – The St. Catharines Kiwanis Aquatic Centre and new St. Catharines Public Library Branch will open to the public Tuesday, July 3 with opening ceremonies set for 3 p.m.
“I would like to invite the community to come celebrate the opening of this wonderful new recreation facility with us,” said Mayor Brian McMullan. “Excitement has been building while construction wrapped up over these last few weeks. This facility is going to turn Pearson Park into a new hub for recreational activities the entire community can enjoy.”
In addition to the official opening of the pool and library, the July 3 festivities will include the unveiling of the City’s first piece of commissioned art work, Jeux D’eau/Games of Water by Naoko Matsubara, which will be displayed at the facility.
Opening day activities include:
· 3 p.m. Opening ceremonies with Mayor Brian McMullan
· 4 p.m. Public art unveiling Jeux D’eau / Games of Water by Naoko Matsubara
· 4:30 p.m. Official Opening of the St. Catharines Public Library Branch
· 5:15 p.m. Official Opening of the St. Catharines Kiwanis Aquatic Centre
· 5:30 p.m. Free swimming, crafts and other activities
To celebrate the opening of the St. Catharines Kiwanis Aquatics Centre, residents can splash around in the new pool during free leisure swims and aquatic exercise classes from July 3 to 9. The new library branch will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
