WELLAND – A 47-year-old Welland man is facing a charge of child abduction following an incident on Monday.

Niagara Regional Police allege say a man abducted a six-year-old girl while she was in the care of her 14-year-old sister.

Thankfully, say police, the mother of the girls saw the man leaving the residence with the child. The mother was able to take the child from the man and call police.

Brian Jarvis, 47, is charged with abduction of a person under 14 years old, being unlawfully in a dwelling house and breach of a probation order.

Police say the accused is a casual acquaintance of the victim’s family.
