Storm Watch: The mystery of sexual attraction – and asexuality

JOHN STORM/Special to Bullet News

Someone who is asexual is a person who is not attracted to men or women in a sexual manner. Brock University professor Anthony Bogaert says more people who are asexual are now coming out more to their friends.

In his book, Understanding Asexuality, Bogaert says asexuality is not like celibacy where the individual abstains from sex. With asexuality the person has no interest in sex with men or women.

Bogaert says knowledge of his own sexuality was increased as he researched the book, which he calls as only a beginning of the understanding of asexuality. He believes about one per cent of the population is asexual, although he cautions that percentage may vary since research is still relatively new.
