NIAGARA – Eleven high school students face a variety of criminal charges after Niagara Regional Police cracked down on marijuana use at schools in Fort Erie and St. Catharines.
The arrests were made Thursday as part of an initiative police are calling “Project Eraser.”
Police have not named the schools or the students, who due to their age, cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Charges laid include possession of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Interesting how they bust kids for weed but leave the older professionals alone in the region who use, grow and sell. It’s no wonder Niagara has so many problems in government and agencies with all the professional people who are doing controlled substances. When is the last time the boys in blue ( and senior under covers) got tested? You can’t even drive a truck across the border without being tested and these people carry dangerous weapons, drive through red lights at busy intersections. The others in government and institutions make decisions that drive up their salaries and cost taxpayers money.
So I ask you what targeted profile would have the most benefit to stopping corruption in Niagara. I used to watch a judge go drinking at lunch and then sit on the bench in the afternoon and if you followed the cases you would see he let women off easy who co-operated with him.
I am very glad they are sweeping school. I personally cannot believe the amount of youth under the influence of drugs. It sickens me. And as for the officers yes it has been proven there is some corruption and officers who have made bad choices. But a few apples shouldn’t spoil te bunch. There are many hard working honest officers. I don’t see anyone posting pics on fb of an officer risking his life and being a hero! Nobody should do drugs at any age and testing should be done regularly but I am tired of seeing people constantly attacking the police force that YOU will call when you need help but talk terribly when you aren’t in need.
11 highschool students selling a few joints….what about the 40 million in cocaine and herion that goes through Niagara each year….surely this must be more of a priority than a few punks ass kids in highschool…..
Police can go into schools and perform random drug sweeps whenever they want, no warrants, no extra investigation costs to the taxpayers. It would be interesting if they didn’t take advantage of this opportunity to show kids that using and selling drugs at school can get you in trouble. It’s no wonder kids these days are so unmotivated, rude and irresponsible with so many of them using and selling controlled substances. I’m having trouble NOT seeing the benefits of targeting drugs in schools. During a regular shift the police did drug sweeps at schools experiencing high levels of drug use, they arrested kids with enough drugs on them to be charged with trafficking, police can gather info on the dealers these kids sell for, and send a message about what can happen if you bring drugs to school. If they didn’t do something someone would complain about police ignoring the rising drug problem in Niagara schools.
You guys did notice the link to the other article about another drug raid in Niagara where they arrested adults for trafficking heroin, prescription pills, bunch of cash. As a result of an investigation that started over a month ago. Police can’t just go knocking down doors and searching peoples homes for drugs, they have to build a case first. They make arrests like this quite often, its ignorant to think that they are not putting the pieces together to get top suppliers.
The project was started to crack down on marijuana use in the schools. That doesn’t mean that’s the only drugs they found. The charges are possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. Doesn’t say what the controlled substance is, its ignorant to assume that marijuana is the only drug these kids are carrying.
What kind of moron thinks discouraging drug use in schools is not productive and not a part of the bigger problem?
Are you serious
I Couldn’t agree with you more.
I must add the fact that whether someone agrees or not marijuana is illegal!
and therefore it is more than “Selling a little weed” It is breaking the law and encouraging other children to break the law. If they are not stopped now…Who knows what they will do later.
If a child does not face consequences for breaking the law, he loses respect for the law.
We need to teach our children to respect the laws of our country, we need to teach them that actions have consequences.
And “Jim”… Maybe these people that you talk about didn’t face consequences as children and went on to do the things you mentioned. The Police force has done quite a lot lately in dealing with illegal drugs, I have no idea why you would say different.
Is “Selling a little weed” the same as “Stealing a little money” or “Shoplifting a little bit”
How can you think it wrong to try and stop kids breaking the law, no matter what has or has not been done with adult law breakers?.
