WELLAND – Two youths missing from Welland today have been found safe, Niagara Regional Police say.
The youths – a boy and a girl – are from the Quaker Road and Niagara Street areas of Welland.
Police issued a public appeal for assistance locating friends Brianna Burke, 11, and Brendan Scaduto, 12, earlier today.
Photos of the two were made public in the hope that someone would recognize them and contact authorities.
The case generated much media interest, with reports throughout the day and evening on newspaper websites and broadcast on local radio.
“The two youths were located by a member of the public which had learned of the missing youth from the local media,” police said in a statement issued late Monday.
“The youths were returned safely to their families. The Niagara Regional Police Service would like to thank the members of the media and the public who assisted in successfully locating the two youths.”
