Bullet News

ST. CATHARINES – Preliminary site work for the construction of the new spectator facility in St. Catharines is set to get underway beginning Wednesday.

St. Catharines officials announced Friday that Ball-Rankin Construction Inc. will begin work at the McGuire Street site, including curb removal, stripping top soil, some minor excavation work and installing a silt fence.

The budget for the facility, construction of which is set to get into full swing in January, is $50 million.

The new complex will be a multi-purpose facility, which is able to host a range of entertainment and sports events, including junior ‘A’ hockey.

The contract to design and build the spectator facility was awarded by city council to Ball-Rankin Construction in October.

The spectator facility is expected to open to the public in September 2014.
