WELLAND – Three youths have been arrested following an incident Monday during which a male victim was beaten and left lying on the ground with serious injuries.

The attack happened around 8:30 p.m. in a parking lot on Niagara Street, in Welland. The charges were announced Wednesday.

Niagara Regional Police say the suspects, driving in a car, chased the victim into the parking lot and used the vehicle to confine the victim there.

The suspects then exited the car and proceeded to threaten and assault the victim.

The three males then fled the scene in the vehicle, “leaving the victim alone and seriously injured,” police say.

Police have not said why they believe the victim was targeted.

A subsequent investigation of the incident has led to the arrest of the three youths who cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

They were charged with dangerous operation of a motor Vehicle, assault causing bodily harm and uttering threats.

All three were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges.
