Police have arrested a 38-year-old St. Catharines man for a vicious assault early Saturday that resulted in a Welland man being treated for concussion and a broken nose and needed stitches to the head.
At around 1:40 a.m., police were called to a home on Gretel Place. The investigation revealed a 38-year-old Welland man was struck in the head with a hammer and thrown through a glass door. During the disturbance, the suspect also trashed the home, damaging a computer and sliding glass door.
The victim was taken to Welland County General Hospital, where he was treated for a concussion and a broken nose and required stitches to the head.
The suspect fled from the home and was arrested a short time later by officers as he was fleeing in a taxi on Hwy. 406 at Regional Road 20.
The suspect was charged with aggravated assault and mischief.
