Fort Erie girl escapes man trying to grab her arm

Niagara This Week

Police are investigating after a Fort Erie girl was grabbed by the arm while walking to catch her bus Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday morning when the 10-year-old girl was walking to her bus stop in the area of Central and Highland avenues.

A man stopped his tan-coloured car, turned off the vehicle, got out and approached the girl, grabbing her by the arm. The girl pulled away and yelled at him to let go, which the man did. The man then left, and the girl ran to her bus nearby.

Niagara Regional Police media officer Derek Watson said the girl reported the matter to her bus driver, and to school administration when she arrived.

The male is described as white between the age of 50 and 60, is partially bald with what was described as a ring of brown hair. He was wearing a long, dark brown jacket and was said to be humming throughout the entire encounter.

He did not make any attempts to force the girl into his car, nor did he say anything.

Watson said police really don’t know what to make of this and would like any information about the identity of the man. He said police would also like to speak to the man himself.

“At this point we don’t know the intent of this man,” he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 905-688-4111.
