CRIME: Police release suspect photo from Welland bank robbery

WELLAND – Niagara Regional Police have released photos of a suspect wanted in connection with a armed robbery at a bank in Welland last week.



The incident happened Friday around 12:30 p.m. at the Caisse Populaire, located at 59 Empire St.

Police say a lone male entered the bank armed with a handgun and approached a teller demanding money.

The suspect’s efforts were thwarted by a “brave customer,” who was already being served by the clerk.

The suspect and the customer were involved in a short struggle.

The suspect fled the scene without obtaining any money.

The customer was not injured.

The suspect is described as white male, with a medium build, about five-feet, 10 inches t six-feet, one inch tall.

He was wearing a grey-coloured hooded-sweater, with the hood concealing his face, and blue jeans.

The male was armed with a black handgun.

Police said Thursday they have identified a “unique” piece of clothing that may be linked to the robbery.

It’s an extra large “AMP Energy Dale Earnhardt Jr. Nascar” jacket.

The jacket sleeves are covered with smaller sponsor logo’s. The jacket itself is primarily Black and Green with white trim. The “Amp” logo is also on the back of the jacket.

Police have released a photo of the suspect obtained from a survielance camera, as well as a photo of the jacket.
