Fore Ladies Only Golf Tournament: A good time for some very good causes – see photo gallery

The Fore Ladies Only Charity Golf Tournament was held at the
Willo-Dell Golf Club of Niagara on Wednesday.

The tournament, which originally started up four years ago, was created by a volunteer group of Niagara Falls businesswomen (Laura Menechella, Mary Petrusic, Sue Forcier, Dolores Sacco, Vera Gale and Janie Palmer), who wanted to create a fun day just for the girls that would raise money to donate to local organizations.

This year’s event saw 144 ladies come out to play a little golf, and Mary Petrusic one of the committee members took a moment to
talk about the day.

“We’ve raised over $114,000 in the past four years for some
really excellent causes that are community based charities. It’s a
great group of women. I’ve never worked with a better group as a
matter of fact. Today is actually a celebration of women in some
sense.”

Another interesting twist to the day was the addition of the
members from the Niagara Falls Professional Firefighters
Association who served as caddies.

“Well we wanted this tournament to be a little bit different and a
little bit catering to the women so our group came up with the idea of maybe having their own personal caddies to help out the ladies during the golf game,” said committee member Sue Forcier. “We have avid golfers out here but we also have women out here that are just out to have fun and we thought, ‘What a great idea.’

“The firefighters were right on board and they’ve been helping us out for the past four years and the ladies
just love it.”

Some of the proceeds of the day as well go to the Niagara Falls
Firefighters Foundation burn unit although most of the proceeds
of the day go to charities that are women and children affiliated.

Golfer Candice Rorison, a long time participant in the event, says
she loves the tournament because there are so few things geared
just for the ladies these days.

“It’s nice to just get out with the women and enjoy the day! You
talk about your kids, you talk about your experiences, you have
fun, you joke and it’s just an all-around good day.”

After it was all said and done, $30,000 was
raised. Donations included”

$13,000 to the Alzheimers Society

$13,000 to Daval Hospice

$4,000 to Niagara Falls Professional Firefighters
