The IceDogs struck first, as Brook Hiddink collected his fourth goal of the season just past the midway point of the first period. That proved to be the only goal of the period.

Sudbury tied things up early in the second scoring only 59 seconds into the frame. The IceDogs answered back minutes later as Jesse Graham struck on the powerplay to give Niagara the lead once again at 2-1. The score remained that way until the 14:08 mark of the period when Sudbury knotted things up once again at 2-2.

The IceDogs grabbed the lead early in the third with a Carter Verhaeghe powerplay goal making it a 3-2 game only 1:19 into the third. Sudbury answered back with a powerplay goal of their own just prior to the midway point of the third to tie things up once again at 3-3.

In overtime, the IceDogs found another gear, carrying the play for much of the period as they outshot Sudbury 4-1. Steven Shipley put home the overtime winner at 3:44.

The IceDogs continue their road trip in Sault Ste. Marie Saturday night before returning home to host the Erie Otters on Monday in their annual New Year’s Eve game at 6 p.m.
