WEATHER: Strong winds, flurries possible along Lake Erie shoreline today

NIAGARA – The following special weather statement has been issued by Environment Canada for south Niagara, including Welland and Niagara Falls.

Special weather statement for: Simcoe – Delhi – Norfolk Dunnville – Caledonia – Haldimand Grey – Bruce Barrie – Orillia – Midland Niagara Falls – Welland – Southern Niagara Region.

Strong southwesterly winds north of Lake Erie today and lake effect flurries off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay tonight.

Strong southwesterly winds are expected ahead of a cold front near Lake Erie today.

A few gusts to 80 km/h will be possible along the shoreline. In the cold northwesterly flow behind the front, lake effect flurries and local snow squalls are expected to develop off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.

Local amounts of 5 to 10 cm will be possible tonight in addition a visibility of 200 metres or less.

Motorists should be prepared for poor driving conditions as sudden reductions to visibility will be possible in snow and blowing snow. Please monitor the latest forecasts and warnings from Environment Canada at www.weatheroffice.gc.ca.
