Man arrested at gunpoint in Welland

A 29-year-old man was arrested at gunpoint Tuesday in Welland after brandishing a knife at drivers, attempting to steal a car and break into a house.

Niagara police say at approximately 9:25 p.m. a male was found in the middle of Lincoln Street waving a knife around at oncoming traffic. The suspect approached five different vehicles with the knife. He tried to steal one of the vehicles, while damaging two others, police say. The suspect then attempted to break into a house on Garner Street, where he was eventually arrested at gunpoint.



Charged is Daniel Deslegte of no fixed address with robbery, three counts of weapons dangerous, two counts of mischief, attempted break and enter and two counts of breaching probation
