The Niagara IceDogs fell to the visiting Belleville Bulls 7-2 on Friday night in front of a sellout crowd of 3,145 at the Jack Gatecliff Arena.
The IceDogs jumped out to the lead 12:27 in the first as newly named captain Ryan Strome did not take long to make his mark in his return, scoring his 23rd goal of the season. Belleville answered with a pair of quick goals to take a 2-1 lead. The IceDogs responded however, as rookie Aaron Haydon tied it 2-2 before the end of the period.
Belleville led 5-2 after the second period as Niagara’s offence fell apart. Belleville added a pair in the third to make it a 7-2 final. Final shots were 46-24 Belleville.
The IceDogs return to action Saturday night at 7 p.m. when they play host to the visiting Peterborough Petes.
