The Niagara IceDogs fell to the visiting Barrie Colts 2-1 in overtime at the Jack Gatecliff Arena on Thursday night.
The first period was a hard fought battle as the IceDogs and the Colts searched for their first goal. Both goaltenders, Chris Festarini and Mathias Niederberger, played well and kept the score deadlocked at 0-0.
In the second period both teams increased the intensity as they fought to find the go ahead goal but the score remained even at zero. The IceDogs created great opportunities but were unfortunately could not bury the puck.
Early in the third, the IceDogs had several near misses and showed great defensive pressure. The sharp goaltending made offensive breaks difficult to come by but with just over two minutes to go, Steven Shipley would bury a rebound to give the IceDogs a 1-0 lead. he lead would not last as with just over a minute to go the Barrie Colts tied things up at 1-1.
Tempers flared at the beginning of the overtime period as both teams amped up their intensity. The Colts scored only 35 second into the overtime period.
