The Niagara IceDogs fell to the Sudbury Wolves by a score of 4-1 at Jack Gatecliff Arena Thursday night.
The first twenty minutes of play was full hard hits and offensive pressure. The Wolves struck first and netted two quick goals. Late in the period, IceDog Ryan Strome fought hard and was rewarded when he found the back of the net to cut the Wolves lead to one at 2-1. Assisted by Luke Mercer and Jesse Graham, the goal marked Strome’s 25th of the year. The IceDogs outshot Sudbury 11-10 in the first period.
The second period saw Sudbury starting off on the power play and netting their third goal barely a minute into the period. As play resumed, both teams upped their physicality but the score would remain 3-1 moving into the third period. The shots in the second period favoured Niagara 10-9.
In the final period, the IceDogs fought hard but were unable to find the back of the net. Sudbury added an empty netter at the end of the period.
The IceDogs will get right back at it Friday night when they travel to Erie.
