St. Davids garage fire keeps schoolchildren indoors for recess

Niagara This Week

Thick, black smoke filled the air in St. Davids early Thursday afternoon, after a workshop caught on fire.

The call came in at 11:57 a.m. concerning a fire at 596 Warner Rd.

Niagara Regional Police media officer Derek Watson said the fire caused heavy black smoke that was drifting towards St. Davids Public School, causing officials there to keep the kids inside for recess.

Watson said that by 12:23 p.m., most of the smoke had dispersed and firefighters had the blaze under control.

There are no reports of injuries.
