A 45-year-old Fenwick man is in critical condition after a his vehicle drove into Wainfleet’s town hall off Highway 3 early Sunday morning, a collision that also injured his two passengers.
Emergency responders were called to the scene near the corner of Feeder Road at around 1:13 a.m. for reports of a single vehicle collision. Investigators determined the vehicle – for some unknown reason – left the roadway and drove into the township building.
The driver was taken to Welland County General Hospital and then transferred by air ambulance to Hamilton General Hospital in critical condition. The two male passengers were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Wainfleet Mayor April Jeffs said there doesn’t appear to be much damage to the building.
The collision remains under investigation by the OPP Traffic Support Unit. Witnesses are asked to call Const. Culp at 905-356-1311.
