NIAGARA FALLS – A 20-year-old St. Catharines man is charged with attempted murder after a woman was found stabbed at a Niagara Falls hotel.

The incident happened Sunday morning.

Niagara Regional Police say they were called to the unnamed hotel to investigate a report of a person having been stabbed.

The victim, a 20-year-old woman, was taken to Greater Niagara General hospital where she underwent emergency surgery.

The woman, whose name has not been released, is listed in critical but stable condition, according to police.

“It doesn’t appear that the victim and suspect knew each other, however, the meeting on this date was prearranged,” police said in a statement late Sunday.

Charged with one count of attempted murder is 20-year-old Peter James Ashford, of St. Catharines. He was being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The investigation is ongoing.
