CRIME: Niagara Falls man arrested after woman was attacked while walking along Victoria Avenue

NIAGARA FALLS – Police in Niagara Falls have made an arrest after a woman was attacked while walking along Victoria Ave. early Friday.

The incident happened around 12:31 a.m.



Niagara Regional Police say the woman was walking with two handbags, containing her purse, identification, cash and work articles.

The victim was walking through the parking lot located behind the convenience store located at 5613 Victoria Av.

She was attacked from behind by a male suspect who grabbed the victim in a bear hug.

The male attacker struggled with the victim, grabbing onto her handbags, attempting to tear them away from the victim. The victim fought back and was able to hold onto her handbags where a struggle ensued, police say.

At this time, NRP Const. John Garner was on patrol and observed the attack. Garner observed the male attacker pulling at the victim and eventually throwing her to the ground.

Constable Garner initiated a foot pursuit, ending with a struggle and the arrest of a suspect.

Raymond Wayne, of Niagara Falls, is charged with robbery.

He was taken into custody and held pending a bail hearing.
