Police, firefighters and paramedics rushed to an accident on the east side of the Thorold Tunnel, Friday, after a minivan, a full-size van and a transport truck collided.
The collision occurred shortly at around 10:20 a.m. at the corner of Thorold Stone Road and Highway 58 or Davis Road. The dark full-size van was carrying passengers. The minivan contained a logo for the Boys and Girls Club of Niagara.
Boys and Girls Club Executive Director JoAnne Turner confirmed it was a club van and said no children were aboard.
“A staff member of the Boys and Girls Club of Niagara was involved in the three-vehicle collision by the Thorold Tunnel,” she said in a statement. “There were no children in the vehicle. The staff member is currently at (Greater Niagara General Hospital) for assessment.”
OPP media officer Const. Graham Williamson said the transport truck was travelling westbound on Thorold Stone towards the intersection when the collision occurred. He said it appears that one of the vans went through a red light but that has yet to be determined.
Both van drivers were injured and taken to the hospital. However, Williamson said their injuries are much less severe than initially feared and that neither have life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the transport truck was not injured.
Police are actively appealing for witnesses, who are asked to call 1-888-310-1122.
