Saturday night hockey in St. Catharines saw the Niagara IceDogs beat the visiting Kingston Frontenacs 4-1 at Jack Gatecliff Arena.
Ondrej Kopta striuck first at 6:31 to give the IceDogs an early 1-0 lead. The visiting Frontenacs tied the game up less than two minutes later.
Niagara’s Brett Ritchie gave the IceDogs the lead once again as he capitalized on a powerplay situation to make it a 2-1 game. The IceDogs kept their one-goal lead through the rest of the period, moving into the third period with that same 2-1 lead.
Niagara goalie Chris Festarni stole the show in the third period, staying strong and locking things down despite being peppered with 14 shots. Late into period Ritchie scored his second of the game, giving the IceDogs a two goal lead at 3-1. In the last seconds of the period, defenceman Jesse Graham added a shorthanded empty netter.
