The Niagara IceDogs downed to Windsor Spitfires 9-4 at Jack Gatecliff Arena Sunday afternoon.
The first period got off to a quick start for the IceDogs as Brett Ritchie scored his first goal of the game only two minutes in. Steven Shipley struck next, at 6:02, to give the IceDogs a 2-0 lead. Windsor cut the IceDogs lead to one, scoring on the powerplay to make it a 2-1 game. Carter Verhaeghe tallied at 11:20 and Mitchell Fitzmorris made it 4-1 before the break.
The IceDogs had another quick start in the second period as Verhaeghe scored his second goal of the game 26 seconds in to make it 5-1. Windsor battled back with three quick goals to make it a one goal game at 5-4.
The IceDogs came back when Jesse Graham scored to again stretch the IceDogs lead to two. With three minutes left to play in the period, Ryan Strome ripped a point shot past Windsor goaltender Jaroslav Pavelka, on the powerplay.
At 6:16 of the third period Brendan Perlini scored to extend the IceDogs lead to 8-4. Then Ritchie picked up his second of the game at 11:13.
The IceDogs play host to the visiting Mississauga Steelheads Thursday at 7 p.m.
