ST. CATHARINES – A St. Catharines bar has been fined $2,000 for Ontario Fire Code violations.

St. Catharines Fire Services officials said in a release Monday the conviction relates to an inspection conducted in November 2011 at J Rocks Bar & Pizza, located at 351 Lake St.

The owner pleaded guilty to failing to maintain fire protection systems and failing to maintain and test portable fire extinguishers. Fines of $1,500 and $800 were imposed.

“It’s important for us to inspect businesses during their busiest times,” said Chris Leonard, chief fire prevention officer.

“We want to make sure bars and restaurants don’t exceed their occupancy limit and that their fire prevention equipment is up to date.”
