WELLAND – A 50-year-old Welland man is facing drug charges after Niagara Regional Police executed a search warrant at a home on Southworth Street, Wednesday.
During the search, police discovered $2,500 worth of drugs, including methamphetamine, morphine tablets, and hydromorphone capsules.
Also found was a prohibited weapon and $385 cash, police say.
Charles Joseph Laro, 50, is facing three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and possession of a prohibited weapon.
Laro was held in police custody pending a bail hearing today.
Investigation at the residence continues.
“During the execution of the warrant police noted numerous safety hazards at the residence that could pose a threat to the safety of the inhabitants and to the community,” police said in a statement. “As a result the Welland Fire Department was contacted and attended the scene. The Welland Fire Department commenced an initiial investigation into the residence and an ‘Immediate Threat to Life Order’ was being issued. Investigation is continuing.”
