WELLAND – Niagara Regional Police have charged two people after a man was robbed at knifepoint, Monday.
According to investigators, the victim had been walking in the area of Ontario Road in Welland with a friend and another male, who was not previously known to the victim.
At some point during the walk, the two men turned on the victim and demanded money.
One man held a knife to the victim, police say.
After receiving an undisclosed sum of cash from the victim, the two men fled on foot.
A short time later, NRP officers responded to a call at the No Frills, located at 300 Lincoln Street, in Welland, where there had been a theft of meat.
Two men were arrested a short distance away from the store and have been charged in connection with both incidents.
James Wymenga and Michael Waterfall are each charged with one count of robbery and one count of theft.
Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
