NIAGARA – A 16-year-old West Lincoln student is facing criminal charges after allegedly posting “threatening” comments on Face Book.
Niagara Regional Police said Thursday they charged the youth, who cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, after the Facebook posts were brought to the attention of school officials.
Police have not said specifically what threats were made and have not named the school where the student attends.
The students has been charged with five counts of uttering threats.
Police say they take such incidents seriously.
“Online threats are just as serious as those made in person,” police said in a statement.
“Communicate with your children about their experiences online. Encourage your children to tell you if something they encounter on one of these sites makes them feel anxious, uncomfortable or threatened.”
