NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE – A 22-year-old Niagara-on-the-Lake man is in serious but stable condition in a Hamilton hospital after the car he was driving hit a hydro pole.
The incident happened Sunday around 12:41 a.m.
Niagara Regional Police say the victim was travelling eastbound on York Road in his 2002 Pontiac Grand Am.
The vehicle crossed over the centre lane then into a ditch where it struck a driveway culvert and became airborne.
The vehicle then rolled before hitting a hydro pole and coming to rest.
The man was taken to Greater Niagara General hospital suffering from serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
While at the Niagara Falls hospital he was placed under arrest for impaired operation of a motor vehicle, pending further investigation.
The man was later airlifted to Hamilton Health Sciences, where as of Sunday afternoon he was in serious but stable condition.
The incident remains under investigation.
