THOROLD – Racing this past Saturday at Merrittville was cancelled due to weather, but looking ahead, the long weekend brings an exciting event back to the track. Mark your calendar for Aug. 5 and the fourth annual Bob St. Amand Sr. 100.
Race fans and especially race teams will see quite an event presented by L. St. Amand Enterprises and St. Amand Auto & Truck Repair, with friends of the family and the local business community also involved.
“What can we say,” said Merrittville Speedway general manager Erica Bicknell-Jones. “The entire racing community has rallied around Bob’s family once again. It is shaping up to be the event of the summer!”
“It’s something he would have liked to have been a part of,” said Bob St. Amand Jr. “The drivers all meant so much to him; everyone in the family is doing their part.”
While the family run companies are sponsoring the event – it is inviting everyone to take on a challenge and participate in many rewarding levels that are available.
“We’re proud to announce almost all laps have been sponsored,” said (Bob Sr.’s granddaughter) Brooke St. Amand. “The response for the 100, Hoosier Stocks and recently added Sportsman event has been overwhelming.”
“With the event a little more than one week away, there are limited sizes available in Bob Sr. T-shirts,” said Heather St. Amand. “You can pick yours up at the front gate leading up to race day while they last the next two Saturdays, but don’t wait until it’s too late.”
Bob St. Amand Sr. was Merrittville Speedway’s 1972 Modified Points Champion and was inducted into the L. St. Amand Enterprises Wall of Fame by the Merrittville Speedway Reunion Committee in 2002.
When he retired from racing, he became Merrittville Speedway’s Pit Steward, a position he held right up to his passing in 2010.
In addition to the 100-lap Big Block Modified event, the extravaganza will also feature a Hoosier Stock Duel on the Dirt Home Track Event, the final Enduro Qualifier accelerated by Niagara College and a recently added 20-lap event for non-2013 winners in the Rick’s Delivery Sportsman Division.
The event also features the famous Club Castropignano pasta dinner and tickets are now available at the discounted rate of $10 until Saturday, Aug. 3. After that date, tickets will be $12. Tickets are available in the Novelty Booth, the bar and at the registration trailer in the pits.
