NIAGARA – The Niagara Regional Police Service is warning the public about individuals soliciting Niagara residences while posing as security system salespeople.
Police say they have received two complaints in the past week from members of the public about men pretending to sell ADT security systems.
Police suspect the individuals are casing homes to find out if there is a security system; to obtain a layout of the interior and exterior of the homes and find out if there are pets. Once this information is obtained, the homeowners could become a break-and-enter target.
Police advise residents to never let a door-to-door salesperson into their home, but to ask for a main office number and schedule an appointment, if they are interested in the services being provided. Residents are reminded to always confirm the identity of service providers. If approached by ADT salespeople, residents are advised to contact ADT at 1-888-263-1748 to confirm the salesperson’s identity.
