ST. CATHARINES – A 92-year-old man was taken to hospital after the car he was driving was struck by a tractor-trailer in St. Catharines, Monday.
The incident happened around 1:20 p.m. at the intersection of Seventh Street Louth and Third Avenue Louth.
Niagara Regional Police say the victim, whose name has not been released, was driving 2003 Buick Century westbound on Third Avenue Louth when he failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection.
The car was struck by a Mack CF60 tractor-trailer being operated by a 51-year-old Welland man.
Police say the force of the collision pushed the car across both lanes and off of the roadway.
The elderly driver was taken to St. Catharines hospital. He is listed in stable condition.
The driver of the truck was not injured.
The accident remains under investigation by members of #1 District Uniform Patrol Unit, with the assistance from detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit.
