ST. CATHARINES – Local swimmers can get ready to dive back into the pool at Brock’s Eleanor Misener Aquatic Centre.
The centre, which has been closed since April 1 for renovations, is set to re-open Oct. 18.
In the meantime, swimming lesson registration opens Oct. 7 at 5 p.m. and participants can soak in all the tips for perfecting their front crawl starting Nov. 4. Registration can be done in person at the Walker Complex information desk or by calling 905-688-5550 x4060.
“We welcome everyone back,” McAllister-Kenny said. “They had to leave for a few months but we look forward to having everyone back again.”
Most of the changes made to the centre won’t be visible to pool users. But David Balasiak, the project manager who oversaw the renovations, is hopeful swimmers will be able to feel them when they return.
New air handlers with dehumidification to keep moisture and chlorine odours in check have been installed. There are also new fabric air ducts, which will make the movement of air through the centre less noisy. Three new boilers will ensure more consistent air and water temperatures throughout the facility.
The renovations cost $3.124 million and also include new energy efficient fluorescent lighting, pumps and fans, upgraded electrical work, a new roof membrane, repairs to the pool filter and new acoustic insulation.
For more information, contact Karen McAllister-Kenny, Director, Recreation Services at 905-688-5550, ext. 3574 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
