WELLAND – Following an investigation into a fired deemed suspicious at a Welland home late Tuesday, Niagara Regional Police Service have charged a man with arson.
On Tuesday, Oct. 1 at approximately 11:45 p.m., members of the Welland Fire and Emergency Services Department and the Niagara Regional Police Service attended a house fire located at 120 Southworth St. N. The home was fully engulfed upon arrival of emergency services.
The home’s resident was not injured and had exited the home prior to the arrival of emergency services. The fire was deemed to be suspicious.
As a result of an investigation by the Niagara Regional Police, the Welland Fire and Emergency Services Department and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office, Joseph Rousseau is charged with theft of telecommunication, arson and breach of probation.
Rousseau was held pending a bail hearing, Thursday.
Total damages at the home are estimated at $130,000.
