THOROLD – Two final events remain on the Merrittville Speedway schedule when the 2013 season is celebrated Nov. 2 and Nov. 3 at Port Robinson’s Club Castropignano.
Race fans and teams alike have until Friday, Oct. 18 to purchase tickets from the Speedway’s winter office.
“We only have a few seats here and there,” said Merrittville general manager Erica Bicknell-Jones. “The Stock Car Event is a fun night out … the event offers great food and when the party starts … it’s a real night club atmosphere. On Sunday afternoon, our karters are looking forward to celebrating our 20th season.”
Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series action saw Kyle Pelrine and Kevin Knapp each earn their first career championships in the Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinder and Hoosier Stock Divisions respectively.
The 62nd consecutive season found Pete Bicknell claiming his 23rd Bobcat of Hamilton DIRTcar 358 Modified Championship with Cody McPherson running to his 2nd straight title in the Rick’s Delivery DIRTcar Sportsman Division, while Josh Sliter earned his fourth championship in the J&S Heating and Air Conditioning Modified Lite Division.
The five drivers and other member drivers will among those receiving awards and point monies with further highlights of the night – the awards such as the Best Appearing Car Awards, the Ed MacPherson Construction Kelly-Winger Sportsmanship Award, the Begolo-Little Most Improved 358 Modified Driver Award, the Gordie – in honor of the former announcer and Wall of Famer Gordie Wilson, for dedication to the sport, the Performer of the Year and the B&C Truck Centre Mack Canada Driver of the Year.
Merrittville Speedway’s 20th Season of Tuesday Night Lucas Oil Weekly Karting Series Action will be celebrated with Dalton Slack, Joshua Hansen and Dylan Davidson earning their first championships in the RCM Racing Equipment Junior 1, Ed MacPherson Construction Junior 2 and Superior PetroFuels Junior Restricted Divisions respectively.
Corey Bodman rounds out the Performance Manufacturing Divisional Champions – earning another title in the Philbrick Farm & Garden Equipment Wilder Racing Engines Senior Animal Division.
Numerous special awards will also be presented in addition to competition awards for the two Novice Divisions – Drummond Home Hardware Novice 1 and Tim Phillips Garage KC Auto Parts Novice 2.
Race fans and team members looking to pick up a ticket can do so by visiting Merrittville Speedway’s winter office – located in Bicknell Racing Products – 117 Cushman Rd. in St. Catharines from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday to Friday in the short week leading up to Oct. 18.
