ST. CATHARINES – Recently, Niagara IceDogs owners Bill and Denise Burke presented a cheque for $16,335.85 to Angela Daly from the Canadian Cancer Society for the funds raised from their 2013 Pink in the Rink game.
The game actually took place Jan. 26 in front of a sellout crowd at the Gatorade Garden City Complex.
For the second consecutive year, the IceDogs wore commemorative Pink in the Rink jerseys and once again auctioned them off through niagaraicedogsauction.com.
In addition to the jersey auction, there were a number of fundraising efforts at the game, including donation collections, cupcake sales and various pink merchandise for sale, including, for the first time, a commemorative Pink in the Rink hat. The proceeds from the jerseys and all the fundraising efforts benefitted the Canadian Cancer Society and women’s cancer research.
The jerseys that drew the top bids this year were Aaron Haydon, whose jersey raised an impressive $900, followed by Ryan Strome, whose jersey brought in $725. In total, 28 jerseys were sold, each for $325 or more, with 24 jerseys topping $400 and 13 topping the $500 mark.
